📚 Goals at a glance
The FutuRSI project is developing a prototype service organization for research software development with distributed teams to evaluate how such a service should be designed at the federal level.
- Development and testing of a prototypical service organization for research software.
- Development of a concrete concept for a research software institute in Germany.
- Strengthening communities and networks for RSEs (Research Software Engineers).
- Coordination and integration of existing initiatives and infrastructure offers.
- Sensitizing and advising scientific institutions and science policy actors.

FutuRSI is shaping Germany’s future research software ecosystem by facilitating collaboration between research institutions and domains, coordinating services and offerings, and empowering and connecting people developing research software across Germany.
Central components of our mission:
- Creation of a feasibility study and a sound concept for a nationwide Research Software Institute.
- Documentation of the requirements, processes and steps for the prototypical development of such an organization.
- Advocacy for open, collaborative and sustainable practices in Research Software Engineering.
- Support Research Software Engineers and researchers from all disciplines in Germany through:
- Community building and networking
- Skills development and knowledge exchange
- Advocacy with scientific institutions and science policy.
